I am happy to announce the formation of Geriatric Orthopedic Society. This society is the need of the hour and we invite you to be member of this society and contribute to the well being of the geriatric orthopedic patients.

Why such a Society?
-
Due to the ever increasing average life span of people in India, there is a large chunk of geriatric population
-
Geriatric orthopedic problems are on the rise and consists of geriatric trauma, geriatric diseases, malignancies, osteoporosis etc
-
Geriatric patients form a big chunk of patients visiting a orthopedicians clinics
-
A Separate society is required to cater to this big chunk of population in terms of service, training and orientation programs
-
Doctors need to be separately trained and sensitized towards the treatment and care of geriatric patients
-
To have our own news letter and magazine to be circulated among the doctors regarding the work and services related to geriatric group of patients
-
To interact with the various medical journals and promote the interests of the geriatric patients
-
Preventive geriatrics is neglected entity and lots need to be done to prevent the orthopedic problems in this age groups
-
To carry out educative programs and camps particularly in the old age homes to create awareness among this population
-
Geriatric orthopedic disorders are a problem to manage because unlike in other Age groups, elderly patients suffer from depression, loneliness, bereavement, financial and economic crisis and physical and mental frailties too. All these require a change in the way we look at and treat these patients.

It has a very vast scope and the common ones among them are to deal with both the preventive and curative aspects of common geriatric problems like trauma, degenerative disorders etc.

ABOUT GERIATRIC ORTHOPEDIC SOCIETY OF INDIA NATIONAL CONFERENCE - GOSICON-2103

The first ever national conference of the Geriatric Orthopedic Society of India (GOSI) was held at Bangalore on Oct. 5th and 6th 2013 at Century Club. Over 350 delegates from all over the Country attended the Conference. The highlight of the conference was the excellent scientific program covering all aspects of geriatric orthopedic problems and the presence and felicitations of the doyens of Indian Orthopedics, Padma Vibushan Dr. K H Sancheti, Padma Bhushan Dr. N S Laud, who inaugurated the Geriatric Orthopedic Society, Dr. GS Kulkarni, and Dr. VM Iyer. Dr. Anil Jain, President Elect IOA, Inaugurated the Conference and also released an E-souvenir, the first of its kind. All were unanimous in their opinion that GOSI was indeed need of the hour and wholeheartedly lauded the initiative of Dr. John Ebnezar for founding this Society. Another highlight of the Conference was the World Record event of the release of Dr. John Ebnezar’s 103 Public health related Orthopedic books and felicitation of the centurion Mr. Venkata Subbiaha. The first GOS oration has delivered by Dr N S Laud. Dr KV Rajendra, President, Karnataka Orthopedic Association and Dr Deepak S, President of the Bangalore Orthopedic Society graced the inaugural function.

Interactive sessions with other specialties and emergence of Dr. John Ebnezar’s Wholistic Orthopedics generated animated discussions among the delegates. The conference was followed by a hand’s on workshop over bone models. The conference was accredited with 5 points by the Karnataka Medical Council. The conference was a huge success and was appreciated by one and all from PG students to senior orthopedic surgeons all over India. It was widely covered by the media and TV Channels and the emergence of GOS was lauded as a significant landmark development in Indian Orthopedic Scenario.
Dr. John Ebnezar announced that the next year conference would be bigger and better and would be an International Event to be held at BMCRI from Sep 12th to 14th 2014.

WORLD OSTEOPOROSIS DAY - AWARENESS PROGRAM ON 21/10/13 AT AMWAY HEAD OFFICE, INDIRANAGAR,BANGALORE
Dr John Ebnezar conducted an Awareness Program on Osteoporosis on the occasion of the WORLD OSTEOPOROSIS DAY at AMWAY HEADQUARTERs,INDIARANGAR BANGALORE. He had an interactive session with the audience and empahsised the importance of preventing osteoporosis by leading a bone healthy life style right from the young age. The audience were mixed ranging from executives,students to house wives. They all appreciated the health lecture of Dr John Ebnezar and said they were greatly benefited by his awareness program and promised to lead a bone healthy life style.

OLD AGE CAMP AT PARIMALA HOSPITAL IN THE YEAR 2006. GERIATRIC PATIENTS WERE EXAMINED FREELY,MEDICINES DISTRIBUTED FREELY AND HEALTH EDUCATION PROGRAM WAS CARRIED OUT BY DR JOHN EBNEZAR AND DR PARIMALADEVI. DR SUNANDA KULKARNI ALSO CONDUCTED THE CAMP ALONGWITH US.
