MESSAGE FROM DR JOHN EBNEZAR,FOUNDER PRESIDENT OF THE GERIATRIC ORTHOPEDIC SOCIETY OF INDIA

I am very happy that the Seventh International Conference of the Geriatric Orthopedic Society of India, GOSICON-2019, is being held at the historic city of Aurangabad, Maharashtra. Geriatric Orthopedic Problems have assumed great significance in the recent times due to the ever increasing geriatric population thanks to the increase in the life expectancy of people and improved health care across the globe and India. Bulk of our orthopedic surgery practice concerns this population. The challenges of treating a geriatric patient is different due to the associated multiple co-morbidities, co- musculoskeletal conditions, mental, emotional and psychosocial problems. Treating a geriatric patient demands special skills from we orthopedic surgeons for which we have not been trained. GOSI was started with an intention of creating a forum which focuses on training the orthopedic surgeons to gear up to the challenges of managing a geriatric orthopedic patient. GOSI has so far conducted 6 International Conferences in prominent places like Bangalore, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh and the prestigious AIIMS, Delhi. All these conferences were a great success with a wide range of academic activities involving the best of international, national, and local orthopedic luminaries who are well known figures in the treatment of geriatric patients participating and have thus a new benchmark.

This one promises to be better as it is being organized in MGM Medical College with active support from the Aurangabad Orthopedic Association and the Maharashtra Orthopedic Association. Dr Rajendra Shewale, Dr Girish Gadkar, Dr Prakash Sigedar and their dynamic team have made elaborate plans to make this conference a grand success. They have lined up a galaxy of National and International faculties and are sure to provide us all with a great academic extravaganza.

With Aurangabad being one of the most sought after tourist destination in India and the World, it is sure to provide you and your family a great getaway and visit to various places of tourist attractions like Ajanta and Ellora Caves and other World heritage sites. So it promises to be a great academic, cultural and social event. I invite you all to attend the conference in large numbers and making this historic conference a grand success and also become members of GOSI and strengthen our hands and further your skills and knowledge in managing this ever increasing special group of the society.
